Mr. Emani Kumar has been the Executive Director of ICLEI South Asia since its founding in 2005. He was also appointed as Deputy Secretary General of ICLEI in the year 2013. With degrees in Environmental Management, Environmental Planning and Civil Engineering, Emani has more than 18 years of professional experience on issues related to climate change policy and planning, local governance, renewable energy and energy efficiency, social accountability, systems management and auditing.

He has worked with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and also with the National Institute of Urban Affairs (NIUA). Apart from overseeing the organisation’s strategic development, he also coordinates various multi-year & small scale projects and research work supported by various donor and UN agencies; State and National governments of India and Research Organizations. He also liaises for various projects like Promoting Low Emission Urban Development Strategies in Emerging Economy Countries (Urban LEDS), SUNYA- Towards zero waste in South Asia and more.

In his role as ICLEI Deputy Secretary General, Emani Kumar works with all the offices in Asia, to ensure cohesion in implementation of ICLEI’s agendas and spearhead advocacy activities in the region. He also supports the Secretary General in representing ICLEI at all international forums.

Dr. Prasad Modak

Managing Director Environmental Management Centre Pvt Ltd and Director Ekonnect Knowledge Foundation – Council Member.

Dr Modak runs a strategic consulting company –Environmental Management Centre LLP – that focuses on sustainability. He is also Director of Ekonnect Knowledge Foundation a Section 8 Not for Profit Company with a mandate to impart education and training in the arena of environmental management & sustainability. Dr Modak was Chief Sustainability Officer at IL&FS Ltd, India and the first Dean of IL&FS Academy for Applied Development as a Consultant.

He has worked with almost all key UN, multi-lateral and bi-lateral development institutions in the world. Dr.Modak’s work on environmental management over the past three decades has influenced environmental policies, investments and practices on a global basis. His extensive consultations and involvement in the Asian region in particular has led to building implementation capacities of key environmental institutions. This work has been duly recognized and appreciated in various fora and his advice is sought for strategic inputs and independent assessments.

Sonia holds a Master’s degree in environment engineering from University of Maryland at College Park (USA), a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture from Chandigarh (India), and an Executive Diploma in Urban Management Tools for Climate Change from the Institute for Housing and Urban Development Studies, Erasmus University Rotterdam (Netherlands). She has also contributed extensively to knowledge development, skill building programs and initiatives. As Senior Advisor to the Vice President for Knowledge Management and Sustainable Development at ADB, Sonia provides strategic policy and technical advice to the development of knowledge solutions, research and analytical work to support ADBs operations. As senior environment and climate change specialist in ADB’s Southeast Asia Urban and Water Division, she led the innovative “GrEEEn” Cities Initiative for balanced urban transformation. This enabled a robust country dialogue and a significant nvestment
business line for strategic urban green growth in Vietnam, Malaysia, and Thailand.

Datuk Lim Sue Beng is a man of many illustrious callings from hotel management to transportation, construction and global business. Having pursued Civil Engineering at the eminent King’s College, University of London, and an MBA from the Cranfield School of Management, UK, Datuk Lim is a proponent of sustainability in business. He has interests in sustainable forest management in Sabah in collaboration with the bioplastic industry players. He is also involved in IMT-GT Green Initiative Street Lightings Energy Efficiency Project, and a promoter of bilateral relations and investments with China. He also serves as the Vice President of Malaysian Global Business Council.

Dr. Mahadi has been the Executive Director of Green Growth Asia Foundation since its founding in 2016. He also is a member of the advisory panel of Thought For Food International Foundation, Sustainable Business Awards Malaysia, Management & Science University Malaysia and University Malaysia Pahang. A Research Fellow of Centre of Public & Policy Study of Asian Strategy and Leadership Institute, Vice Patron of the German Alumni Association Malaysia as well as the Founder and Chairman of Yayasan AmanJewa, Dr Mahadi has contributed his vast knowledge, expertise in various fields and industries, towards exploring investment opportunities, establishing partnerships and working relations across industries, businesses and governments focussing in the ASEAN region. He also plays an invaluable intermediary role for multinational companies, GLCs, and local listed Companies with selected Ministries and Government Agencies, acting as advisor on government relations, business implementation and economic public policy strategies. He holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Conflict & Crisis Management, a Master’s Degree in Industrial Engineering and is currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in Sustainable Development Management.

Mr. Balamurugan Ratha Krishnan

Chief Executive, Green Growth Asia Foundation – Advisory Committee.

Balamurugan has over 13 years of experience in senior roles that promote regional social and economic development between countries located in ASEAN, particularly within the context of a green growth agenda. He has developed an extensive network of high level contacts in national and local governments, local government bodies, the private sector, academia, multi and bi-lateral international institutions, NGOs and community leaders. In particular, Balamurugan has deep and close working relationships with ASEAN, IMT-GT, BIMP-EAGA and ADB.

Balamurugan has amassed a range of specialised skills and has direct experience in developing policy and strategies for regional economic integration and cooperation between countries. This includes multi-sector experience in agriculture, tourism, halal products and services, transport and ICT connectivity, trade & investment, environment and human resource management. As an experienced programme manager, Balamurugan has identified, designed and implemented programmes and projects in a multi-dimensional setting; across sectors; across stakeholder groups particularly government, private sector and academia; and across countries. His detailed knowledge of regional development affairs, policy and regulatory frameworks empowers him to bring clarity and directions to negotiations and discussions. His Results-based Monitoring experience drives him towards securing tangible outcomes and impacts.

Ultimately, Balamurugan is a driven person who is passionate about bringing inclusive and sustainable development to all the people in the region. He has led in the development of many new and highly innovative green projects, not just within Malaysia, but across the region. The Green Cities Action Plan (Melaka, Kota Kinabalu, Songkhla & Hat Yai, Medan and Batam), IMT-GT Sustainable Urban Development Framework, Energy Efficiency for Government Buildings, LED Street Lighting, Carbon Inventory and Eco-Schools are just a few of the green programmes that he has pioneered and convinced national leaders to adopt and pursue. He was also successful in convincing the Rockefeller Foundation to bring Melaka into their 100 Resilient Cities network. He lobbies tirelessly with international agencies, such as World Bank, Global Environment Fund; WWF; UNDP, UNHABITAT, UNIDO, ICLEI and UNEP, to engage with IMT-GT’s green initiatives.

Importantly, Balamurugan believes that a stakeholder approach is needed in order to bring about a new green growth paradigm and this underpins the collaborative approach that lies at the centre of his work. This can be seen in the IMT-GT University Network initiative that he has championed and the Green Cities Conference and Network that he started, working together with the Asian Development Bank and Local Government for Sustainability (ICLEI).

S. Anandan Shanmugam serves as an Assistant Professor and Acting Head of the Department of Electric and Electrical Engineering at the University of Nottingham. His research interests lie in the field of medical image processing, imaging and bioinstrumentation. In his future endeavors, S. Anandan aims to further explore biomedical image processing and intends to establish a core multidisciplinary group to bolster research in medical imaging and image processing.

Professor Dr Raldi Hendro T. Koestoer

Principal, Senior Policy Analyst in The Coordinating Ministry of Economic Affairs, Republic of Indonesia.

Professor Dr Raldi is an eminent academician in the field of Environmental Science, lecturing at the University of Indonesia covering Sustainable Development Goals and Policies. Currently, he also serves as Senior Policy Analyst and First Echelon in the Ministry of Economic Affairs; and as aSenior Researcher at the Indonesian Institute of Sciences. He holds a PhD. in Environmental Science (Planning) from Griffith University, Australia; a Master of Science (MSc.) in Regional Science from University of Queensland, Australia; conferred the Doctorandus (Drs.) Geography from the University of Indonesia, where he also completed his Bachelor of Science in 1980.

He is also is the President Commissioner of various companies, an Advisory Board member of several assocations in the areas of sustainable development and environment. Among his areas of expertise are Urban Environment, Spatial Planning, Green open space, Sustainable Development, Spatial/ Urban & Regional Science, Modelling in Environmental Science and Policy science.

Professor Dr. Ahmad Zaharin Aris

Professor of Hydrochemistry, Universiti Putra Malaysia.

Professor Dr. Ahmad Zaharin Aris, CEnv, MRSC, FASc, has conducted pioneering work contributing to the setting up of national and international guidelines and policies on environmental issues. He is a top researcher in environmental science in Malaysia and a globally recognised scientist and academia in his field of expertise. In 2019 he was accorded the Top Research Scientist Malaysia award, among many. Known to be one of the youngest SEARCA (Southeast Asian Regional Centre for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture) Professorial Chair grantees, Professor Dr. Ahmad Zaharin Aris went on to be recognised as World Top 2% scientist in his field and was elected as a Fellow of Academy of Sciences Malaysia (FASc – ASM). Furthermore, Elsevier’s Scival Spotlight has ranked him third among the global experts under the Distinguished Competency of water quality, silent and pollution category.

He is also actively involved as a member of various committees such as, Panel for Postdoctoral Scholarship Selection Committee for Human Life Advance Foundation, National Panel of Research Assessment for Fundamental Research Grant Scheme, Science Fund, Research University Grant Scheme, South African Medical Research Council, EU Fund, RCUK-UK, National Research and Development Agency, Chile, Scientific Advisor for the Science Fund of the Republic of Serbia, among others.

Dr Sarva Mangala Praveena

Associate Professor, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Universiti Putra Malaysia

Dr Sarva is an Associate Professor with the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health, Faculty of Medicine and Health Science, University Putra Malaysia. She is the recipient of multiple awards, including the 2017 Gro Brundtland Award (Women in Sustainable Development), the Young Scientist Award UPM, ProSPER.Net-Scopus Young Scientist Award in Sustainable Development United Nations University in Japan, to name a few. She is also the owner of several intellectual properties that include two patents and one industrial design.

In 2019, she was the plenary speaker at several international conferences including the 3rd International Conference on Environmental and Food Safety, the 3rd International Conference on Climate Change and 4th Borneo Water and Wastewater Exhibition and Conference in 2018.
She is a member of several associations: Society for Environmental Geochemistry and Health, Royal Society of Chemistry and Malaysia Water Association.

Mr Ahmad Azlan bin Azmi

Ahmad Azlan bin Azmi is the founder and director of Study Germany Sdn Bhd since 2010. Upon graduating in Mechanical Engineering from University of Applied Sciences Reutlingen, the experience of accomplishing a world-class education instilled in him the passion that propelled him to establish Study Germany Sdn Bhd.

He taught German in various colleges including German Malaysia Institute and INTEC Education College, before pursuing MBA at Management & Science University, graduating in 2020, majoring in Global Marketing, and is currently pursuing his doctorate at University Teknologi Malaysia.

In educating and promoting environmental, social and economic stability as well as through his ventures with the Malaysian cottage industry, Azlan adopts environmental strategic in achieving sustainability, an area close to his hear. As much as possible, he aligns the products to cover relevant UN Sustainable Development Goals pursuing sustainable practices that also address issues of family, health, poverty and consumption.

He is currently the Advisor of Education, German Alumni Association Malaysia, a Certified HRDF Trainer and a Trustee for Yayasan AmanJewa

Mr Amzar Azhar

Executive Director of Exni Heavy Industry Sdn Bhd.

After graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from the Eastern Connecticut State University, US, Mr Amzar Azhar started his career as a consultant with Institute for Sustainable Energy in Connecticut. Within a year, he was offered a position in J.P. Morgan Chase Bank in Manhattan, New York as Debt Capital Market Officer. Returning to Malaysia after more than three years in this capacity, he worked as Business Development Manager in a tin mining company and junior consultant in Malaysian Chamber of Mines.

Today, he is the Executive Director of Exni Heavy Industry Sdn Bhd, a sister company to Exni Industrial S.L. in Jaen, Spain, that manufactures and specialises in machinery maintenance. He is also a partner with AICIA in Andalusia, Spain, a non-profit organisation for research associated with Higher Technical Industrial Entering School of Seville, aimed at promoting, guiding and developing and disseminating scientific results, and known nationally and regionally as an Innovation and Technology Centre (CIT).

Professor Dr. Hizir Sofyan serves as the Vice Rector for Planning, Cooperation and Public Relation Affairs for Syiah Kuala University, Indonesia. He obtained is B.Sc. in Statistics from Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology Surabaya Indonesia and his doctoral degree at the Institute of Statistics and Econometrics, School of Business and Economics, Humboldt-Universitat zu Berlin, Germany in 2003. His areas of expertise include computational statistics, econometrics, information technology and big data.

He is one of the initiators of the Indonesia-MalaysiaThailand Growth Triangle International Conference on Mathematics, Statistics, and their Applications (IMTGT ICMSA) which has been held annually since 2005.

Mr Robin Lim started off his career in the hospitality industry and the construction industry. Motivated by his love for land and farming that was instilled by his father, he began his involvement in the agriculture industry in 2010. He believes that food stability is an important factor in the country and there are many highly nutritious fruits that were not widely grown or available in Malaysia then. Through his endeavours as the founder of Superfruitsvalley by FigDirect, he grew his agriculture business to be the largest super fruits farm in Southeast Asia growing fig, lemon, gac, passionfruit, fingerlime, capegooseberry and mulberries. FigDirect has been sustainable for the past six years due to his experience, utilisation of modern technology to ensure that their farming practices are sustainable. Mr Robin Lim is the agriculture advisor for Allforyou Sdn Bhd, a plantation based company listed on London’s Stock Exchange, that is dedicated to growing organic vegetables for the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility programme in Malaysia.

Dr. Muzailin is currently the Director of the Universitas Syiah Kuala International Office, based in Banda Aceh, Indonesia. He obtained is doctoral degree in 2015 from the International Research Institute of Disaster Science, Tohoku University, Sendai City, Japan. In the past decade, he has been involved in activities and achieved professional status related to internationalisation. Among these are, Committee Chair and trainer for Workshop on ICT for Resilient City Initiatives, in collaboration with UNDP and Banda Aceh City Government in 2020. Munir Sulaiman completed his Mechanical Engineering degree from University of Minnesota with a minor in project management in 2005. He has 11 years working experience in the oil and gas industry and was in Shell Global Solution project management group specialising in Downstream Assets. During his tenure in Shell project management group, he had the opportunity to be actively involved in downstream oil projects in Netherlands, Singapore, Australia and Malaysia.

Munir joined Arthos in 2015 as an associates and since then, his focus is to grow Arthos to be a government consultant firm that operates at a global level with the objective of attracting multinational companies to invest and operate in Malaysia.

Munir is also the strategic advisor to Green Growth Asia Foundation and secretary to Amanjewa Foundation. He likes reading and travelling.

As the Programme Coordinator for Perak and Penang Eco-Schools, Husna brings her expertise in communication to the forefront of environmental education, coordinating and empowering schools to integrate sustainability into their curricula. Outside of work, she is an avid lover of both coffee and matcha. Her adventurous spirit extends beyond her professional life, with hiking being one of her favourite hobbies.

Nadia has always had a deep passion for environmental conservation, which led her to pursue a degree in Biodiversity Conservation. She has also contributed her time as a volunteer with SEATRU in sea turtle conservation and has been actively involved in mangrove conservation programmes with the Wetland School of Setiu. These hands-on experiences have only deepened her commitment to sustainability.

Inspired by environmental advocates like Leonardo DiCaprio, Nadia now serves as the Programme Coordinator for Pahang Eco-Schools. She now focuses on educating both local communities and students about the importance of environmental protection, believing wholeheartedly that awareness and education are key to creating a greener, more sustainable future. Beyond her professional life, Nadia is known for her soft-hearted nature, always ready to lend a helping hand. In her free time, she finds solace in reading books, which nourishes her love for knowledge.
